Lorcana Evasive: Who Can Challenge?

Disney Lorcana booster display from the Poke-Geek catalogue illustrating Evasive

In Disney Lorcana, Evasive does not make a character untouchable. It creates a precise challenge restriction: an Evasive character normally cannot be challenged except by a character that also has Evasive.

This guide complements ready, exerted and drying characters, Location challenges and our guide to reading a Lorcana card.

A challenge limiter

Evasive is a static ability. It needs no activation and applies when the opposing player checks whether the chosen character can legally be challenged.

No EvasiveExerted, no EvasiveLegal if all other conditions are met
No EvasiveExerted, EvasiveIllegal
EvasiveExerted, EvasiveLegal if all other conditions are met
EvasiveExerted, no EvasiveLegal

Check in order

  1. The challenger is ready and dry unless an effect says otherwise.
  2. The opposing character is exerted.
  3. Requirements and limiters, including Evasive, are checked.
  4. Costs are paid and the challenger is exerted.

What Evasive does not do

Evasive does not add Strength, Willpower or damage reduction. It does not stop a legal Action or ability from choosing or damaging the character. It also does not change Lore or allow an earlier quest.

Characters and Locations

A Location is challenged under its own rules. A character at a Location does not transfer Evasive to that Location unless card text explicitly says so.

Printed and temporary abilities

Check the actual game state. An effect may grant or remove Evasive for a duration. Use the abilities each character has when challenge legality is checked.

Common mistakes

  • Treating Evasive as protection from every effect.
  • Thinking an Evasive character may challenge only Evasive targets.
  • Forgetting that a character target is normally exerted.
  • Confusing “chosen character” effects with challenges.
  • Exerting the challenger before checking the target.

Before every challenge, name the challenger, target and applicable restrictions before exerting the card.
